  1. This module provides many sample units for me to share with teachers to help them think about completing their own unit plan templates. I think when a teacher first looks at the unit plan template, it appears overwhelming. However, once teachers begin working on their own unit, I believe it helps to take small sections and let the teachers collaborate if they wish. Creating the publication for the unit prior to writing the unit seems premature. I think it makes more sense to complete the unit which then probably would give teachers more ideas about the best ways to publicize the unit. I am all for project-based learning because it makes the students active learners. Encouraging teachers to create more project-based learning activities is an important role for me as an instructional designer.

I feel hopeful that I will be able to enhance my student’s learning in the classroom due to this class. My learning curve it moving up and I am anxious to go home and reflect on what I have learned today. I believe that children need to have fun while learning and adding technology will do just that.

  2. I see the instructional designer as a person who guides the students to look to certain places on the internet dealing with the topic of the unit. The unit can become very large very quickly so I need to re-evaluate if a certain project is needed for the unit or if the students can learn something from it then I will include it. I found some websites that the students can have fun and learn at the same time, but it did not lend itself to the unit I was creating.

I love how this unit plan makes me think in an organized manner. I usually get overwhelmed when I know units like this have to be completed in such a short time frame. Wiki Spaces is wonderful and I’m very excited to start using this in my classroom. I know have a better understanding of how to find resources online to use in my classroom and in my units.

  4. This Module is awesome. Lots of good information to assist to becoming a better designer in the classroom.I certainly need to become more creative with learning activtities. Knowing how to create publications and unit planning with all the techniques can be overwhelming but much needed. Takes a lot of the guess work out of planning, using other people ideas.

As a special education teacher I am discovering that there are many resources to find information to help me teach my students. Having access to the Wiki space will be a wonderful way to give information to them. It is making me very excited thinking of different ways to design lessons that will be very interactive and enjoyable for my students. A lot of them have difficulty learning with the traditional way of learning and have access to project-based activities, I believe, will give them a better chance of retaining information.

  6. This module has made me consider most how to differentiate the lesson and incorporate tools for various learning styles. I have also thought about my documentation more thoroughly and in-depth than I normally would.
The difficulty with project-based learning many times is grading the finished product and thoroughly checking the product for plaigarism. Students (at least by the time they are high-school students) have definitely learned the cut-and-paste technique and grab information off the Web with no thought to crediting the actual author. I am looking forward to the module discussing copyright….

This module is very beneficial in that it focuses the teacher and helps the teacher analyze what is taught, why it is taught, and what the outcome should be. In addition, the module provides an overview and helps to show the steps the teacher and students take in the unit and what the assessments pieces are along the way. This will help me organize my novel studies and really analyze the direction I will take in driving the students towards a set of goals.

  8. I use to have a file called “other peoples work”. This class is showing me a whole new way of sharing called “collaborating”. I find the samples shown today INSPIRING! The tools shown to me today should make a big impact on my teaching and for my students. Students love “doing” and my goal is to make it happen for them with more engagement in the learning process.

  9. This module has made me more aware of my role as an instructional designer and the vital importance of how lesson plans need to be written to address specific criteria. I need to design an instructional model that encompasses a multitude of information. I must take into consideration the audience I am teaching, the various learning styles, what resources will be needed, an idea of how I will manage students, both in whole group and small group, and all materials needed. I believe that all people learn by doing and through experiences; therefore, teaching by following PBL models is essential in order to cover the five “E”s in a lesson plan: A good lesson will give students the opportunity to: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate. Projects allow students to address all of the “E”s.

This module makes me think my students will be more engaged in their projects making learning more active and fun. The use of technology and differentiation of lessons will keep it relevant.
